Reiki for Soldiers & Family ~ PTSD or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is highly associated with our country's combat veterans- past and present.  Approximately 17% of combat veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan have some form of PTSD and these numbers continue to rise. In addition to these statistics, approximately 3,300 combat troops also suffer from Traumatic Brain Injury. The lifetime cost of treating these aliments is expected to equate to a staggering $35 million.  

The federal government is finding that alternative and complimentary therapies such as acupuncture, art therapy, yoga, bioenergy work such as Reiki and Qi Gong, are proving to be successful in helping recover the psyche's of our country's brave warriors.  With that said, the Army has set aside a $4 million program to investigate the positive effects of these non-traditional approaches to healing.

  In July 2007, Dr. John Fortunato opened the Fort Bliss Restoration and Resilience Center. Reiki, or energy healing, has been one of the most successful components of his program in the treatment of PTSD veterans.  Reiki treatments have been proven to heal and soothe hyper arousal, anxiety, panic, insomnia and tension induced physical pain, reduced depression and need for medications,  Those who have received Reiki as a complimentary therapy in addition to traditional medical care have noticed astounding benefits.

 Reiki is an ancient relaxation technique which can aid healing on many levels,and restores balance to the mind, body and spirit.  Reiki touch is gentle and non-invasive- gentle enough to be used on wounds to improve wound healing and phantom pain. In a Reiki session, you lie or sit comfortably, fully clothed. The practitioner uses a series of hand movements in which the palms are placed very gently on or above the physical body. Reiki treatments are calming and energizing.  As you relax, your body will facilitate it's own innate healing response.

  As a former military spouse of a wounded combat veteran, Department of the Army employee and current volunteer with the Wounded Warriors Program, I have a clear understanding of the many challenges you and your family face.
